Description
これにより、ユーザに不快感を与えることなく瞬時に空スキャンを行うことにより、過剰なスキャンライン選択による突入電流を大幅に抑制することができ、その後の安定した駆動を実現することが可能となる。
まず、上記表示素子を従来のシーケンスにより駆動したところ、突入電流が800mA程度流れ、その過電流により電池の電流供給が追いつかず、本来のコントラストからは程遠い、品位の低い表示となった。

Claims (20)
- 互いに対向状態で交差する複数のスキャン電極および複数のデータ電極を備え、該スキャン電極を選択して画像の書込み処理を行う表示素子の駆動方法であって、
前記画像の書込み処理を行う前に、前記書込み処理におけるパルス間隔よりも短い間隔で複数のパルスを印加しながら前記各スキャン電極を走査する、空スキャン処理を実行することを特徴とする表示素子の駆動方法。 - 請求項1に記載の表示素子の駆動方法において、
前記画像の書込み処理は、前記選択されるスキャン電極と前記複数のデータ電極間の表示媒体にパルス状の駆動電圧を印加して行うことを特徴とする表示素子の駆動方法。 - 請求項2に記載の表示素子の駆動方法において、
前記空スキャン処理は、前記表示媒体に印加される電圧出力が該表示媒体の応答値電圧以下となっていることを特徴とする表示素子の駆動方法。 - 請求項3に記載の表示素子の駆動方法において、
前記空スキャン処理は、前記複数のデータ電極を駆動するデータドライバの電圧出力が不定状態となっていることを特徴とする表示素子の駆動方法。 - 請求項3に記載の表示素子の駆動方法において、
前記空スキャン処理は、前記表示媒体に印加される電圧出力が零となっていることを特徴とする表示素子の駆動方法。 - 請求項5に記載の表示素子の駆動方法において、
前記空スキャン処理は、前記複数のデータ電極を駆動するデータドライバの電圧出力がオフとなっていることを特徴とする表示素子の駆動方法。 - 請求項1に記載の表示素子の駆動方法において、
前記空スキャン処理は、前記複数のスキャン電極を順次選択するスキャンドライバに対して動作可能なロジック用電圧が印加された直後に実行されることを特徴とする表示素子の駆動方法。 - 請求項1に記載の表示素子の駆動方法において、
前記空スキャン処理のスキャン速度は、前記画像の書込み処理におけるスキャン速度よりも速いことを特徴とする表示素子の駆動方法。 - 請求項1に記載の表示素子の駆動方法において、
前記表示媒体は、メモリ性を有することを特徴とする表示素子の駆動方法。 - 請求項9に記載の表示素子の駆動方法において、
前記表示媒体は、コレステリック相を形成する液晶を用いていることを特徴とする表示素子の駆動方法。 - 互いに対向状態で交差する複数のスキャン電極および複数のデータ電極を備え、前記各スキャン電極はスキャンドライバにより選択され、且つ、前記各データ電極は該選択されたスキャン電極に対応してデータドライバによりたデータ信号が与えられて画像の書込み処理が行われる表示素子であって、
前記スキャンドライバは、前記画像の書込み処理を行う前に、前記書込み処理におけるパルス間隔よりも短い間隔で複数のパルスを印加しながら前記各スキャン電極を走査する、空スキャン処理を実行することを特徴とする表示素子。 - 請求項11に記載の表示素子において、
前記スキャンドライバは、当該スキャンドライバに対して動作可能なロジック用電圧が印加された直後に前記空スキャン処理を実行することを特徴とする表示素子。 - 請求項11に記載の表示素子において、
前記スキャンドライバは、前記画像の書込み処理におけるスキャン速度よりも速いスキャン速度で前記空スキャン処理を行うことを特徴とする表示素子。 - 請求項11に記載の表示素子において、
前記表示媒体は、メモリ性を有することを特徴とする表示素子。 - 請求項14に記載の表示素子において、
前記表示媒体は、コレステリック相を形成する液晶を用いていることを特徴とする表示素子。 - 請求項15に記載の表示素子において、
前記表示素子は、反射光が異なる複数の表示素子ユニットの積層構造であることを特徴とする表示素子。 - 請求項16に記載の表示素子において、
前記スキャンドライバは、前記各表示素子ユニットの対応するスキャン電極を共通に駆動することを特徴とする表示素子。 - 請求項11に記載の表示素子において、
前記スキャンドライバおよび前記データドライバは、汎用ドライバであることを特徴とする表示素子。 - 請求項11〜18の何れか1項に記載の表示素子を適用したことを特徴とする電子端末。
- 請求項19に記載の電子端末において、
該電子端末は、リーダライタからクロック,表示情報および駆動電力を受け取って画像の書込みを行う電池レスの表示装置であることを特徴とする電子端末。
