Description
図2は、図1に示した可撓性基材を、凸部2が設けられた面が内側になるように湾曲させた状態の断面図を示す。湾曲の度合い(変形量)がある大きさになると、相互に隣り合う凸部2Aと2Bとの側面同士、及び凸部2Bと2Cとの側面同士が接触する。
図5Aに、第4の実施例による可撓性基材の平面図を示し、図5Bに、図5Aの一点鎖線5B−5Bにおける断面図を示す。第4の実施例では、凸部2の平面形状が円形である。平面形状が円形の複数の凸部2が三角格子の格子点の位置に配置されている。凸部2の各々は、頂上が丸みを帯び、斜面が滑らかな曲面で形成された立体形状を有する。例えば、球形または回転楕円体を平面で切断した立体形状を有する。
図10Fに示すように、額縁領域35Bに直接変形抑止構造35Cを形成してもよい。例えば、額縁領域35Bは、画像表示領域35Aの4つの辺に沿った4つの領域に区分される。この4つの領域の各々に、その幅方向に延在する凸部または凹部からなる変形抑止構造35Cが形成される。画像表示領域35Aに凹凸が配置されないため、両面から、凹凸に遮られること無く画像を視認することが可能になる。
エポキシ樹脂系接着剤48を用いて可撓性基材50を透明フィルム40に貼り合わせることにより、正極41、有機発光層42、及び負極45が封止されている。可撓性基材50は、上述の第1〜第8の実施例のいずれかによる可撓性基材と同一のものであり、凹凸の付された表面が外側を向くように貼り合わせられている。
第11の実施例において、図10Cに示した構造と同様に、一方の基板60の外側の表面に凹凸を付して、基板60が可撓性基材75を兼ねる構造としてもよい。また、図10Dに示した構造と同様に、液晶表示素子の両面に、変形抑止構造を配置してもよい。また、図10Eに示した構造と同様に、液晶表示素子に、湾曲を抑止するための枠を取り付けてもよい。
Claims (6)
- 可撓性を有する可撓性膜の表面に複数の画素が画定された画像表示板と、
前記画像表示板に取り付けられ、該画像表示板と共に変形する可撓性基材とを有し、
前記可撓性基材は、
可撓性を有する板状部材と、
前記板状部材の表面あるいは該表面の一部に形成された凹凸を含み、該凹凸は、該板状部材を変形させたとき、相互に隣り合う凸部同士が接触して、それ以上の大きな変形を抑止するような形状とされている変形抑止構造と、を有し、
前記変形抑止構造の凹凸の一つの凸部の領域内に、複数の画素が配置されている、
可撓性画像表示装置。 - 前記変形抑止構造の隣り合う凸部は、前記板状部材を弾性変形の範囲内で変形させた状態で相互に接触する、
請求項1に記載の可撓性画像表示装置。 - 前記変形抑止構造の隣り合う凸部は、前記画像表示板に不可逆的な劣化が生じる変形量に到るまでに、相互に接触する、
請求項1又は請求項2に記載の可撓性画像表示装置。 - 前記可撓性基材は、前記画像表示板を構成する可撓性膜を兼ねる、
請求項1〜請求項3の何れか1項に記載の可撓性画像表示装置。 - 前記画像表示板は、画像を表示する画像表示領域と、該画像表示領域を取り囲む額縁領域とを含み、前記可撓性基材は、前記画像表示領域を含む領域に配置されている、
請求項1〜請求項4の何れか1項に記載の可撓性画像表示装置。 - 前記画像表示板は、ペーパーライクディスプレイ、有機EL素子、または液晶表示素子である、
請求項1〜請求項5の何れか1項に記載の可撓性画像表示装置。
