Description
本発明は、カーボンナノ構造体を製造するために使用される触媒金属粒子複合材料およびその効率的な製造方法に関する。 The present invention relates to a catalytic metal particle composite material used for producing a carbon nanostructure and an efficient production method thereof.
カーボンナノチューブに代表されるカーボンナノ構造体はその特性から、広い用途の応用が考えられている有望な材料である。しかしながらその製造の困難さから高純度かつ高効率で生産する方法の開発が望まれている。 Carbon nanostructures typified by carbon nanotubes are promising materials that are considered to be used in a wide range of applications due to their characteristics. However, the development of a method for producing with high purity and high efficiency is desired because of the difficulty of the production.
カーボンナノチューブを生成させる方法としては、ナノメートルレベルの直径を有する触媒粒子を用いて、アルコール系、炭化水素系等の原料ガスを加熱炉内で熱分解し、触媒粒子上にカーボン結晶を成長させてカーボンナノチューブとする熱分解法が考案されている。熱分解法には、塗布等によって基材上に触媒を担持させる方法や、気相中に触媒を浮遊させる方法等がある。 As a method of generating carbon nanotubes, using catalyst particles having a diameter of nanometer level, a raw material gas such as alcohol or hydrocarbon is pyrolyzed in a heating furnace to grow carbon crystals on the catalyst particles. A thermal decomposition method for carbon nanotubes has been devised. Examples of the pyrolysis method include a method of supporting a catalyst on a substrate by coating or the like, a method of floating a catalyst in a gas phase, and the like.
たとえば特許文献1には、有機遷移金属化合物のガスとキャリアガスと有機化合物のガスとの混合ガスを800〜1300℃に加熱することにより浮遊状態で気相成長炭素繊維を生成する方法が提案されている。
For example,
In
特許文献3には、耐熱性の多孔質担体に触媒微粒子を分散担持させた基板上に炭化水素ガスをキャリアガスとともに送り、該炭化水素ガスの熱分解を利用して、単層カーボンナノチューブを気相合成する方法が提案されている。 In Patent Document 3, hydrocarbon gas is sent together with a carrier gas onto a substrate in which catalyst fine particles are dispersedly supported on a heat-resistant porous carrier, and single-walled carbon nanotubes are gasified by utilizing thermal decomposition of the hydrocarbon gas. A method of phase synthesis has been proposed.
However, the conventional methods as described in

本発明においては、前記略球状金属粒子の露出部分において、少なくとも一方の露出部分の前記膜表面を含む平面における断面の直径が1μm以下であることが好ましい。 In the present invention, in the exposed portion of the substantially spherical metal particle, it is preferable that a diameter of a cross section in a plane including the film surface of at least one exposed portion is 1 μm or less.
本発明においては、前記略球状金属粒子は、鉄、ニッケルおよびコバルトのうちから選ばれる1つ以上の金属からなることが好ましい。 In the present invention, the substantially spherical metal particles are preferably made of one or more metals selected from iron, nickel and cobalt.
本発明における触媒金属粒子複合材料の製造方法は、略球状金属粒子を配置する工程と、前記配置された略球状金属粒子を包含するよう貴金属膜を形成する工程と、膜厚を減じるように膜面を研磨することにより略球状金属粒子の露出面積を調整する工程を有するものである。 The method for producing a catalytic metal particle composite material according to the present invention includes a step of arranging substantially spherical metal particles, a step of forming a noble metal film so as to include the arranged substantially spherical metal particles, and a membrane so as to reduce the film thickness. It has a step of adjusting the exposed area of the substantially spherical metal particles by polishing the surface.

本発明におけるカーボンナノ構造体の製造方法は、前記に記載の触媒金属粒子複合材料を用い、当該触媒金属粒子複合材料の一方表面に原料ガスを供給する工程、他方表面にキャリアガスを供給する工程を含み、キャリアガスが供給された表面からカーボンナノ構造体を成長させるカーボンナノ構造体の製造方法である。 The method for producing a carbon nanostructure in the present invention uses the catalytic metal particle composite material described above, a step of supplying a source gas to one surface of the catalytic metal particle composite material, and a step of supplying a carrier gas to the other surface And a method for producing a carbon nanostructure in which a carbon nanostructure is grown from a surface supplied with a carrier gas.
本発明の触媒金属粒子複合材料を用いることにより、均一なカーボンナノ構造体を安定して製造することが可能になる。またそのカーボンナノ構造体の製造に使用される、高性能の触媒金属粒子複合材料およびその製造方法を提供することができる。 By using the catalytic metal particle composite material of the present invention, a uniform carbon nanostructure can be stably produced. Further, it is possible to provide a high-performance catalytic metal particle composite material used for the production of the carbon nanostructure and a production method thereof.
(Embodiment)
First, the formation principle of the carbon nanostructure found by the present inventors will be described. FIG. 1 is a cross-sectional view schematically showing the formation principle. The principle will be described below with reference to FIG. A catalyst substrate 15 made of a catalyst material 11 (metal particles) and a base material 12 (noble metal film) is disposed so as to separate the space together with the
前述したように従来の製造方法では、カーボンナノ構造体を析出する空間と原料ガスが供給される空間が同一空間であったため、析出部のあらゆる方向に炭素イオンが付着し、直接的に反応するためカーボンナノ構造体のサイズや形状をコントロールすることは難しいものであった。 As described above, in the conventional manufacturing method, the space in which the carbon nanostructure is deposited and the space to which the source gas is supplied are the same space, so that carbon ions adhere to all directions of the deposited portion and react directly. Therefore, it is difficult to control the size and shape of the carbon nanostructure.
しかし本形成過程では、カーボンナノ構造体を析出する空間と原料ガスが供給される空間とが異なる。よって生成しているカーボンナノ構造体への成長に必要な新たな炭素イオンの供給方向は、触媒材料に接する部分(表面)からの一方向であるため、均一な形状のカーボンナノ構造体が効率良く生成する。 However, in this formation process, the space in which the carbon nanostructure is deposited is different from the space in which the source gas is supplied. Therefore, the supply direction of the new carbon ions necessary for the growth of the generated carbon nanostructure is unidirectional from the part (surface) in contact with the catalyst material, so the carbon nanostructure with a uniform shape is efficient. Generate well.
この際、析出する側に露出した触媒材料11の大きさに応じたカーボンナノ構造体が形成される。カーボンナノチューブのような、その径がナノオーダーの構造体を形成するためには、触媒材料の露出サイズもその径として数百nm程度の微細径が必要である。 At this time, a carbon nanostructure corresponding to the size of the catalyst material 11 exposed on the deposition side is formed. In order to form a structure with a nano-order diameter, such as a carbon nanotube, the exposed size of the catalyst material also needs to be as small as several hundred nm.
本発明のカーボンナノ構造体製造用の触媒金属粒子複合材料は、貴金属を主成分とする膜中に、当該膜の膜厚以上の直径を持つ複数の略球状金属粒子が分散しており、前記各略球状金属粒子の一部分は膜の一方表面に露出しており、当該略球状金属粒子の他の一部分は前記膜の他方表面に露出しているものである。 In the catalytic metal particle composite material for producing the carbon nanostructure of the present invention, a plurality of substantially spherical metal particles having a diameter equal to or larger than the film thickness of the film are dispersed in a film containing a noble metal as a main component, A part of each substantially spherical metal particle is exposed on one surface of the film, and the other part of the substantially spherical metal particle is exposed on the other surface of the film.
ここで貴金属とは、銀、金、白金、ロジウム、パラジウム等である。カーボンナノ構造体の製造工程では、上記したように高温状態に曝されることもあり、上記貴金属は膜中の触媒材料として機能する金属粒子と高温状態で合金または化合物を形成する可能性が低い金属として選ばれた。これらは金属粒子が分散する基体となる。 Here, the noble metal is silver, gold, platinum, rhodium, palladium or the like. In the manufacturing process of the carbon nanostructure, as described above, the noble metal may be exposed to a high temperature state, and the noble metal is less likely to form an alloy or a compound in a high temperature state with metal particles functioning as a catalyst material in the film. Selected as a metal. These serve as a base on which metal particles are dispersed.
ここで貴金属を主成分とする膜について説明する。スパッタリング等の蒸着法を用いた場合は、膜を貴金属だけで形成することも可能である。一方、貴金属粒子を含むペースト剤を用いて、塗布法にて膜を形成する場合は、ペースト剤中に結合剤や分散剤が含まれているため、ペースト乾燥後もこれらが幾分残存することもある。よってこのような状態をも称して貴金属を主成分とする膜とする。 Here, a film containing a precious metal as a main component will be described. When a vapor deposition method such as sputtering is used, the film can be formed of only a noble metal. On the other hand, when a film is formed by a coating method using a paste containing noble metal particles, since the binder contains a binder and a dispersant, some of them remain after the paste is dried. There is also. Therefore, such a state is also referred to as a film containing a precious metal as a main component.
The metal particles through which carbon ions permeate must be exposed on both sides of the membrane because they are the carbon ion inlet at one end and the carbon ion outlet at the other end. In order to easily create such a situation, substantially spherical metal particles having a diameter larger than the film thickness may be used. FIG. 2 is a cross-sectional view showing a state in which the catalyst metal particle composite material film is cut at a portion including the catalyst metal particles. This schematically shows a state where the substantially
例えば、膜厚は実用上、50μm程度と設定される。この膜厚に対し、上記したカーボンナノ構造体の製造原理が適用できるよう金属触媒粒子を棒形状で作製した場合、径が数百nmでかつ膜を貫通するために長さ50μm以上をもつ高アスペクト比(非常に細長い)の金属粒子が必要になる。このような非常に細く、高アスペクト比をもつ金属粒子の製造は高度な技術が必要であり、またこれを膜厚方向に立てることは容易ではない。 For example, the film thickness is practically set to about 50 μm. When the metal catalyst particles are produced in a rod shape so that the manufacturing principle of the carbon nanostructure described above can be applied to this film thickness, the diameter is several hundreds of nanometers and a length of 50 μm or more is required to penetrate the film. Metal particles with an aspect ratio (very long and narrow) are required. Production of such extremely fine and high aspect ratio metal particles requires advanced techniques, and it is not easy to stand them in the film thickness direction.
However, if substantially spherical metal particles are used as in the present invention, a suitable catalyst material for the carbon nanostructure in the principle of the present invention can be easily realized. If the film thickness is 50 μm, substantially spherical metal particles having a diameter of 50 μm may be prepared, and such spherical metal particles can be easily manufactured. Moreover, since it is spherical, it will be exposed from both surfaces of the film, regardless of the orientation of the particles. When the film thickness is substantially equal to the diameter of the metal particles, the exposed portion of the metal particles has a fine size, which is preferable for the production of the carbon nanostructure.
本発明においては、略球状金属粒子の露出部分において、少なくとも一方の露出部分の膜表面を含む平面における断面の直径が1μm以下であることが好ましい。カーボンナノ構造体析出側における金属粒子露出部分のサイズは、前記カーボンナノ構造体の成長原理により、数百nm程度であれば好ましいが1μm以下であれば実質上問題ない。 In the present invention, in the exposed portion of the substantially spherical metal particle, the diameter of the cross section in the plane including the film surface of at least one of the exposed portions is preferably 1 μm or less. The size of the exposed portion of the metal particles on the carbon nanostructure deposition side is preferably about several hundreds of nanometers depending on the growth principle of the carbon nanostructure, but there is substantially no problem if it is 1 μm or less.
本発明において、略球状金属粒子は、鉄、ニッケルおよびコバルトのうちから選ばれる1つ以上の金属からなることが好ましい。上記金属は炭素をその結晶格子中に取り込みやすく、本発明のような炭素を透過させる形成プロセスにおいては、触媒材料として好適な金属である。 In the present invention, the substantially spherical metal particles are preferably made of one or more metals selected from iron, nickel and cobalt. The metal is easy to incorporate carbon into its crystal lattice, and is a suitable metal as a catalyst material in a formation process that allows carbon to permeate as in the present invention.
The catalytic metal particle composite material according to the present invention includes a step of arranging substantially spherical metal particles, a step of forming a noble metal film so as to include the arranged substantially spherical metal particles, and reducing the film thickness, for example, a film surface. It can manufacture by the process of adjusting the exposure area of a substantially spherical metal particle by grind | polishing. In order to form a film shape, substantially spherical metal particles are arranged so as to be uniformly dispersed on a plane, and a liquid material containing noble metal fine particles is applied to the state, sputtering, chemical vapor deposition (CVD) method, etc. A method of forming a film so as to embed substantially spherical metal particles with a noble metal can be employed.

On the surface on the side where the carbon nanostructure is deposited, it is preferable that the exposed portion is small, but on the surface on the side where the raw material gas is supplied, the exposed area of the substantially spherical metal particles depends on the growth rate of the carbon nanostructure. It is preferable that the entrance size be able to take in the raw material. Therefore, the exposed cross section is adjusted according to the growth rate.
また上記のよう、まったく略球状金属粒子が露出せず膜が形成されることもあるので、露出サイズが調整できることが好ましい。図3(c)は図3(a)に示される初期表面34を、研磨等により表面35の位置まで下げた状態における膜断面図である。また図3(d)は同状態における膜上面図である。図3(d)に示されるように、膜厚を調整することによって、より広い露出部分36を得ることができる。
Further, as described above, since the substantially spherical metal particles are not exposed at all and a film may be formed, it is preferable that the exposure size can be adjusted. FIG. 3C is a film cross-sectional view in a state where the

まず、同じ大きさを持つ略球状金属粒子を、平滑な基板上に均等に分散するよう配置する(ステップS1)。 First, substantially spherical metal particles having the same size are arranged so as to be evenly dispersed on a smooth substrate (step S1).
配置された略球状金属粒子を固定するために、基板に対してスパッタリング等の方法で銀等の貴金属を蒸着し膜状体を形成する。基板に貼り付いていた面では、球状金属粒子の影となって貴金属が充分蒸着されていない部分が存在することもあるため、膜状体を基板から剥がし、基板に張り付いていた面に対し、再度貴金属を蒸着してもよい(ステップS2)。 In order to fix the arranged substantially spherical metal particles, a noble metal such as silver is deposited on the substrate by a method such as sputtering to form a film-like body. On the surface attached to the substrate, there may be a portion where the noble metal is not sufficiently deposited in the shadow of the spherical metal particles, so the film-like body is peeled off from the substrate and the surface attached to the substrate The noble metal may be deposited again (step S2).
ステップS2にて形成された膜に対して、バフ研磨等の機械的研磨法、酸等による化学的研磨法、イオンビーム等による照射研磨法を用いて、膜表面を研磨し、カーボンナノ構造体析出面、原料ガス供給面に対し、それぞれ最適なサイズの球状金属粒子が膜表面に露出するよう調整する(ステップS3)。 The film formed in step S2 is polished using a mechanical polishing method such as buffing, a chemical polishing method using an acid, etc., or an irradiation polishing method using an ion beam, etc. It adjusts so that the spherical metal particle of an optimal size may each be exposed to the film | membrane surface with respect to a precipitation surface and a raw material gas supply surface (step S3).
以下、実施例を挙げて本発明をより詳細に説明するが、本発明はこれらに限定されるものではない。 EXAMPLES Hereinafter, although an Example is given and this invention is demonstrated in detail, this invention is not limited to these.
(実施例1)
本発明にかかる触媒金属粒子複合材料の実施例を記す。四方に壁を有する箱型の3cm角の平滑なアルミナ基板を用意する。このアルミナ基板上に平均直径50μmの球状鉄粒子を敷き詰める。この球状鉄粒子が敷き詰められた状態の上面に対し、スパッタリング法によって厚さが約100μmの膜を形成するよう銀を蒸着する。
Example 1
Examples of the catalytic metal particle composite material according to the present invention will be described. A box-shaped 3 cm square smooth alumina substrate having walls on all sides is prepared. Spherical iron particles having an average diameter of 50 μm are spread on the alumina substrate. Silver is deposited on the top surface of the spherical iron particles so as to form a film having a thickness of about 100 μm by sputtering.
次に銀が蒸着された面が平滑になるよう、蒸着面を厚さ方向に30μm程度バフ研磨し平らにする。この膜をアルミナ基板から引き剥がし、裏面にもスパッタリング法で銀を蒸着し、膜厚が120μm程度になるようにする。その後この面も厚さ方向に30μm程度バフ研磨し平らにする。以上により、球状鉄粒子が各表面から20μm程度距離をおいて埋め込まれた、厚さ約90μmの膜となる。 Next, the deposited surface is flattened by buffing about 30 μm in the thickness direction so that the surface on which the silver is deposited is smooth. This film is peeled off from the alumina substrate, and silver is deposited on the back surface by a sputtering method so that the film thickness becomes about 120 μm. Thereafter, this surface is also buffed and flattened by about 30 μm in the thickness direction. As a result, a film having a thickness of about 90 μm is formed in which spherical iron particles are embedded at a distance of about 20 μm from each surface.
上記で得た膜に対し、原料ガス供給面を作製するため、一方の表面をバフ研磨により、約30μm研磨する。これにより研磨された面において、鉄粒子が約40μmの直径をもつ円状で露出する。 In order to produce a source gas supply surface for the film obtained above, one surface is polished by buffing by about 30 μm. As a result, iron particles are exposed in a circular shape having a diameter of about 40 μm on the polished surface.
もう一方の面は、カーボンナノ構造体の析出面とするため、バフ研磨によりまず15μm程度研磨する。その後表面を観察しながら少しずつ研磨し、1mm角の領域に150〜250個の鉄粒子の露出が認められるまで研磨し終了する。この段階で膜厚が40〜43μmになり、その膜中に直径50μmの略球状鉄粒子が分散した触媒金属粒子複合材料が出来上がる。 The other surface is first polished to about 15 μm by buffing so as to be a carbon nanostructure precipitation surface. Then, the surface is polished little by little while observing the surface, and the polishing is completed until exposure of 150 to 250 iron particles is recognized in a 1 mm square region. At this stage, the film thickness becomes 40 to 43 μm, and a catalyst metal particle composite material in which substantially spherical iron particles having a diameter of 50 μm are dispersed in the film is completed.
上記のような工程を採用するのは、鉄粒子の直径にばらつきが存在するため、全ての鉄粒子(1mm角には400個が存在する)が露出するまで研磨を進めると、鉄粒子の露出面積が大きくなりすぎ、露出直径が1μmを超える露出部位の方が多くなるからである。露出個数が200個程度の場合、検出可能な直径1μm以下の露出部位数は150〜170個である。このようにして得られた膜を、カーボンナノ構造体製造用の触媒複合材料として使用する。 The above process is adopted because there is a variation in the diameter of the iron particles. Therefore, when the polishing is advanced until all the iron particles are exposed (400 particles per 1 mm square), the iron particles are exposed. This is because the area becomes too large, and the number of exposed portions with an exposed diameter exceeding 1 μm increases. When the number of exposures is about 200, the number of detectable exposed parts having a diameter of 1 μm or less is 150 to 170. The membrane thus obtained is used as a catalyst composite material for producing carbon nanostructures.
(Example 2)
Using the catalyst composite material obtained above, carbon nanotubes are produced as carbon nanostructures by the production apparatus of FIG. FIG. 5 is a sectional view schematically showing the manufacturing apparatus according to the present invention. A catalyst comprising a
In the production of the carbon nanotubes in this example, the temperature in the electric furnace is set to 850 ° C., which is the temperature at which the carbon nanotubes are generated, and argon gas is introduced into the space on the source gas supply side among the spaces separated by the sealing material 55. Supply. Thereafter, the supply of the argon gas is stopped, and ethyl alcohol vapor as a raw material gas is caused to flow through the metal tube so as to be 1 atm. Among the spaces separated by the sealing material 55, argon gas as a carrier gas is allowed to flow at 1 atm in the space on the carbon nanotube growth side.
このようにしてカーボンナノチューブ成長側の触媒複合材料表面に繊維状カーボンが生成する。この繊維状カーボン中にはカーボンナノチューブが含まれている。 In this way, fibrous carbon is generated on the surface of the catalyst composite material on the carbon nanotube growth side. This fibrous carbon contains carbon nanotubes.
