Abstract

983,692. Doffing apparatus. C. EUGEN MAIER METALLVERARBEITUNG G.m.b.H. Jan. 15,1964 [Jan. 18,1963],No. 1802/64. Heading D1D. When a package is doffed and the yarn severed and before a fresh bobbin is applied, in order to retain in position the turns of yarn which form on a spinning &c. spindle, a current of air is directed at the spindle. As shown, a package 5 is being doffed by a pneumatic head 6 on a carriage travelling along a row of spindles 7; as the package is lifted the yarn wraps itself at 11 around the still-rotating spindle. The yarn is severed and to stop the wraps falling, a current of air is directed at the spindle through aconduit 14 which directs the air obliquely and upwardly. The conduit may be such that three spindles are acted upon by the current and is supplied by a blower 12 operating continuously or switched on as the carriage moves intermittently forward and which may place the whole interior of the carriage under pressure.
