Abstract

[Also in Division G3] A clock is provided with a date indicator wherein a disc 3 bearing the date numbers 1 to 31 is indexed forwardly each day, the indexing being performed through a change gear 19, 20 in the time train and of which the gear-wheel 19 is driven from a pinion 21 on the minute shaft 14, the wheel 19 carrying a planet wheel 28 which engages a fixed sun wheel 26 coaxial with the change gear 19, 20, the tooth count of the minute pinion 21, the wheel 19, the planet wheel 28, and the sun wheel 26 being so related that an indexing pin 29 carried by the planet wheel occupies, once every twentyfour hours, a position where it co-operates with means for indexing the date disc. The indexing pin 29 co-operates with one arm 32 of a lever having a second arm 33 to which is secured one end of a spring wire pawl member 35, the other end of which is threaded through a slot 34 of the lever arm 33 and formed into a part 36 which engages ratchet teeth 6 on the disc 3 to index it past a spring detent 8, 9. The disc is adjusted manually through a third arm 40 of the lever to allow for the different number of days in the months. In a modification which enables the numbers to be increased in size without increasing the disc diameter, these numbers are divided between two coaxial ratchet discs 41, 42, Figs. 6 and 7, of which one disc 41 has a window 43 co-operating with a fixed window 2, Fig. 1, the numbers on the other disc showing through both windows whilst the first disc is held stationary. Fifteen normal teeth 44 on disc 41 are of greater diameter than fifteen normal teeth 45 on disc 42, whilst a remaining sixteenth depressed tooth 46 on disc 41 allows a spring wire pawl to miss this tooth and index only the second disc 42 until a lower notch 48 of a sixteenth remaining tooth on disc 42 allows the pawl to engage the depressed tooth 46 and commence indexing the first disc.
