951,264. Feeding reinforcing yarns. G. BILLI. Jan. 26, 1961 [Jan. 29, 1960], No. 3035/61. Heading D1C. A circular machine has means for feeding, at two different feed positions, splicing yarns to the same predetermined section of the needler, which section is variable for every revolution of the needle cylinder. A pattern drum 12 rotates at the same speed as the needle cylinder 1, has a cam recess 12a the same shape as the desired reinforcing, e.g. a heel, and is axially slidable so that the dwell of tappet sets 15, 22 : 27, 33 in the cam recess 12a is variable in accordance with the shape of the cam. To prevent the tappets 15, 27 from being moved sideways by the action of the cam recess 12a their ends (15a, Fig.4) are guided laterally by rollers 18. The tappets 15, 22 lower feed guides 2, 3 to feed in the splicing yarns and the relative angular displacement of the tappets 15, 22 is the same as that of the guides 2, 3 so that the yarns are fed to the same section of needles. The tappets 22, 27 operate cutters to sever the splicing yarns.
