Abstract
582,736. Knitting. HEMPHILL CO. April 5, 1944, No. 6358. Convention date, April 7, 1943. [Class 74 (ii)] A circular machine has a yarn lever 12 to feed a body yarn from a position centrally of a mouthpiece 11, a second yarn lever 9 adjacent one side of the mouthpiece for feeding a pile yarn during rotary work and a third lever 10 for feeding a pile yarn during reciprocatory knitting. The lever 10 feeds its pile yarn so that it will swing during reciprocatory knitting to be fed first through one corner of the mouthpiece and then through the other. In knitting pile fabric during the formation of heels by reciprocatory knitting, the sinkers 4, Fig. 7, are so controlled that the first sinker to be inwardly projected to separate the ground and pile yarns bears in each course a definite spaced relationship to the first needle 3 to take the yarns. The first sinker projected may be the fourth sinker following the first needle knitting in each course. In one form the sinkers are projected inwardly in the two directions of reciprocation of the needle cylinder by cams 25, 26 actuated by levers 34, 35 carried by members 36, 40 having portions 39, 43 arranged to engage the butts of needles operative in reciprocatory knitting. In a modification, the sinker projecting cams are actuated by the narrowing pickers. Specification 577,546 and U.S.A. Specification 2,144,563 are referred to.
