Abstract

944,103. Endless belt conveyers. BIRMINGHAM SMALL ARMS CO. Ltd. April 1, 1960 [April 7, 1959], No. 11660/59. Heading B8A. Material is conveyed upwardly or downwardly at an inclination greater than its angle of repose by a pair of superposed endless belts 2, 16 having opposed coextensive runs between which the material is conveyed, one of the belts having transverse projecting elements to space apart the central portions of the belts whilst their edges are maintained in contact, and the inclination of the belts being greater than the angle of repose of the material between the feed point and a point in the region of the delivery point, but being reduced to become less than the angle of repose of the material upon reaching the delivery point. As shown, the upper belt 2 carries transverse projecting elements 6 extending to a height equal to the spacing between the central portions of the opposed operative runs of the two belts. The two belts are guided by respective sets of rollers 17, 20. Material is supplied to the space between the belts by a hopper 8 from which material passes via an adjustable flap 10 and fixed wheel 9 to an arcuate shoot 5 surrounding the lower terminal pulley 1 of the belt 2, and thence into the space between the belts, a shoot 22 receiving the material at the delivery end of the conveyer. A screw 28 is provided for adjusting a pivoted cradle 26 carrying the upper terminal pulley 23 of belt 1 to tension the latter. Pulley 23 is driven via layshaft 24, on the pivot axis of cradle 26, from upper terminal drum 21 of belt 16, which in turn is driven from a motor (not shown). The feed wheel 9 in hopper 8 is driven from the lower terminal pulley 1 of belt 2. Specifications 944,102 and 944,104 are referred to.
