Abstract

In a feeder including a housing 3 having an inlet 5 for receiving moist material in bulk form, means 4 for conveying the material away from the inlet 15, and means 9 for guiding the material for at least part of the time that it is being conveyed, the conveyer means 4 comprising a multi-strand chain with equispaced scrapers fastened to it, the guide means extend in a direction parallel to at least one run of the chain and are inclined to the axis of the inlet 15. The lower run of the conveyer chain is allowed to sag under gravity thereby applying tension to the upper run. The material falls on to a further conveyer 2. In modifications (Figs. 4 and 5, not shown), the conveyer chain has a triangular configuration, one run being inclined as described above, the second run being either inclined in the opposite direction or being horizontal, and the third run extending vertically adjacent a side of the housing.
