Abstract

1319858 Delivering cigarettes in orderly arrangement SERVICE D'EXPLOITATION INDUSTRIELLE DES TABACS ET DES ALLUMETTES 6 July 1970 [7 July 1969] 32631/70 Heading A2C [Also in Division B8] The orientation of a succession of cigarettes, which are conveyed in continuous motion and in substantially parallel alignment, is varied by the action of two endless supporting and conveying belts 3, 4, located in the same plane at a distance which is smaller than the length of the objects, and driven at different speeds, the two belts moving in directions which differ by a small angle. The cigarettes are fed to the belts 3, 4 by belts 1, 2. The belts 3, 4, are carried by a frame 12 which is pivotally mounted at 11 and balanced by a counterweight 15. The frame at the downstream end of the belts 3, 4, is formed with a guide plate 25 for feeding the cigarettes on to the top of cigarettes on a further conveyor belt 24. A bearing member 26, rigid with the plate 25, rests on the cigarettes on the conveyor 24. As the level of the latter builds up, the frame 12 is raised by being tilted about the pivot 11. The difference in speeds of the belts 3, 4, is obtained by having respective individual drive rollers 9 of different diameters. The cigarettes may be maintained on the belts 3, 4, by means of a cover belt 17. As shown, the frame 12 carries a second set of conveyor belts 3', 4'.
