943,279. Chains. COMPAGNIE DES TRANSMISSIONS MECANIQUES SEINEDOUBS-ISERE. Jan. 9, 1961 [Jan. 15, 1960], No. 785/61. Heading B8A. The space between the false roller 3 carried by the inner link members 4 and the pin 1 carried by the outer link members 2 of a transmission chain is sealed by cups E<SP>1</SP> which are closely fitted on the pin 1, the flat base 9 of each cup abutting an outer link member 2 and the peripheral flange 7 abutting either an inner link member 4 as shown or a plane surface of the false roller 3. The cups may be pressed from metal or moulded from an elastomeric material, in which case one or both faces of a cup may be covered, for example with superpolyamide fabric. The sealing cups E<SP>1</SP> may also be used in silent chains comprising a plurality of pairs of bushed inner link plates, the pin 1 passing through all the bushes and being secured to two outer plates 2 and the cups E<SP>1</SP> being fitted on this pin with their bases in contact with the outer plates as in the roller chain illustrated.
