Abstract
942,270. Collapsible boats. F. A. HUGHES & CO. Ltd. Sept. 21, 1961 [Oct. 3, 1960], No. 33793/60. Heading B7A. A collapsible boat hull is formed of two pairs of flexible panels, each pair being hingedly connected together and to the other pair by flexible rubber or synthetic plastic strips (see Fig. 11, not shown). Each of the first pair of panels 12, which form the bottom of the boat, is bounded by the edges 16, 17, 18 (see Fig. 5, which shows the boat folded), and each of the second pair 20, 21, which form the half-deck and sides, is bounded by the edges 17<SP>1</SP>, 24, 23 and 25. When folded, the panels 20, 21 lie inside the panels 12. The rear edges 18 and 25 are secured to a transom which may be cut into four pieces, the pieces being hinged together to allow it to be folded (see Fig. 4, not shown). The bottom of the boat is of V-section at the bows, and becomes either flat, as shown, or of inverted V-section at the stern. As an alternative, the panels may be extended rearwardly to form a canoe stern. Bracing members, which may form seat frames, are secured to the hull.
