Abstract

930,068. Knitting. WILLIAM COTTON Ltd. Oct. 22, 1959 [Oct. 28, 1958], No. 34415/58. Class 74 (2). Cable stitch effects are produced on a straight-bar machine by providing two adjacent groups of loop transfer points 1b, 1c mounted in a common block 3 carried by the narrowing head of the machine. The two groups are capable of being independently operated so that after the narrowing head has been operated to cause all of the points to transfer in the same direction the associated needle loops to adjacent needles, as shown in Fig. 3, the points of one group 1b are raised to disengage their loops whilst the other group 1c remain in engagement with the needles and retain their loops, Fig. 4. The narrowing head is now given a second movement whereby the points 1c move in the opposite direction and transfer their loops to the needles originally holding the loops transferred by the points 1b such that the transferred loops of each group now cross each other as shown in Fig. 5. As shown in Fig. 7, each group of points is operated through linkage from a cam 28, 37 and the shogging of the block 3 to effect the cross transfer of loops is effected by a cam 12 operated through pawl- and-ratchet mechanism driven from main camshaft 20.
