Abstract

914,272. Vehicle direction indicators. LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd., JOSEPH. June 20, 1961 [July 11, 1960], No. 24071/60. Class 118. A flashing vehicle direction indicator is arranged so that while the indicator lights are dimmed at night the rate of flashing is not reduced. The system incorporates a flasher unit 1 and front and rear indicator lamps 8, 9 and 10, 11, respectively, controlled by a threeposition switch 5. Further switches 14, 15 are included which are switched from the position shown by the vehicle lighting switch through a relay 16, to connect resistances 12, 13 in series with lamps 10, 11, respectively, so that these lamps are dimmed when the vehicle lights are on. The contacts of switches 14, 15 in the operated position connect a further resistance 18 between the dimming resistances 12, 13 so that the current flow through the parallel circuit including resistance 18 maintains the rate of flashing of the lamps at the " daylight " level. Stop lamps 20 may also be dimmed by connection of a resistance 21 normally short-circuited by switch 19 also operated by relay 16.
