Abstract

1445569 Road-traffic signalling LUCAS ELECTRICAL CO Ltd 22 Aug 1973 [5 Sept 1972] 41062/72 Heading G4Q In a circuit which includes a dimming resistor 19 in series with a vehicle stop lamp when lighting switch 12 is closed, a current sensitive means is operable when stop lamp switch 17 is closed to short-circuit the dimming resistor, the current flowing through the sensitive means decreasing when the stop lamp is hot to remove the shortcircuit. Lag in stop lamp illumination at night (due to the dimming resistor) is thereby reduced. In the embodiment a relay has a winding 34 and normally closed contacts 36, 37, 38. A further relay winding 18 is provided: when switch 17 is closed current through winding 34 is insufficient to illuminate any of front 25, 27 and rear 26, 28 direction-indicating lamps but is sufficient to cause contacts 36, 37 and 38 to open. When stop lamp switch 17 is closed current through winding 18 opposes winding 34 and contacts 36, 37 and 38 all close. As stop lamps 21, 22 heat up their resistance so increases when hot that the current in winding 34 causes contacts 36, 37, 38 to open. Resistor 39 ensures that flasher 23 frequency does not change when resistors 29, 31 are in circuit. Modifications.-(1) Instead of winding 18 opposing winding 34 it could operate its own normally-closed contact in parallel with contact 36. (2) Diodes 32, 33 are omitted, the end of winding 34 connected thereto is earthed and operates a contact in the series circuit between the junctions resistor 29/lamp 25 and resistor 31/ lamp 27, the series circuit including another relay winding which operates contacts 37, 38.
