Abstract
975, 562. Vehicle direction indicator systems. JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd. Sept. 26,1961 [Nov. 2, 1960], No. 37628/60. Heading G4Q. Such a system comprises in combination a flasher unit 1 adapted for connection at 2 to a source of supply, a manually operable three position switch 5 having a movable contact piece 4 connected to the flasher unit and movable from a neutral position in opposite directions into contact with a pair of fixed contacts 6 and 7 through which current can be supplied to direction indicator lamps 8 and 10, and 9 and 11 on opposite sides of the vehicle respectively, a pair of resistors 12,13 connected between the said fixed contact pieces and the rear direction indicator lamps 10, 12, a pair of normally closed switches 14, 15 coupled together for simultaneous operation and connected across the said pair of resistors, and a third normally closed switch 16 coupled to the said pair of switches for operation therewith and connected in series with a third resistor 17 across the flasher unit. The resistors are so chosen that when the coupled switches are opened and the three position switch is operated to illuminate the direction indicator lamps at one side of the vehicle, the rear direction indicator lamp will be dimmed without substantially changing the frequency of operation of the flasher unit. The third resistor is of sufficiently high resistance to prevent illumination of a direction indicator lamp by current flowing to the lamp through the third resistor.
