Abstract
946,633. Road traffic indicator systems. P. CIBIE. Feb. 5,1962 [Feb. 10. 1961], No. 4422/62. Heading G4Q. A flashing indicator lamp L is dimmed at night by the insertion of a resistance r, in series with the lamp L and flasher unit A on closure of a switch C and therefore of contacts 2, 3 of a relay R. A compensating resistance r 2 is also connected in circuit so that the current flowing through unit A and therefore the rate of flashing, remains the same. The relay may be included in the tail-light circuit or may be energized by a photo-electric cell. If L is a stop light no flasher unit is connected and r 2 becomes unnecessary. Relay R may be reversed to short r, on energization or replaced by an ordinary switch or a switch operating with the brakes.
