Abstract

1436998 Road vehicle luminous signals LUCAS ELECTRICAL Ltd 4 May 1973 [20 May 1972] 23838/72 Heading G4Q In a vehicle lighting system including stop lamps 19, 21, a dimming resistor 18, a stop lamp switch 17 and a lighting switch 12, switching means is operable when both switches 17, 12 are closed for connecting the dimming resistor in series with the stop lamps and delay means associated with the switching means short circuits the dimming resistor for an interval sufficient to allow illumination of the stop lamps. Thus the danger of time lag, due to the dimming resistor, in high speeds at night is obivated. The switching means may also control dimming resistors 28, 29 in series with rear indicator lamps 25, 27 (22 is a flasher unit and 23 the direction indicator switch). The dimming resistors are bridged by normally closed contacts 34, 35, 36 of a relay 41 and are shown in the positions when relay 41 is energized. The above interval is produced by charging of capacitor 45 via diode 49 and, when charged transistor 42 is turned on to energize relay 41. Similar operation effects the direction indicator lamps. The frequency of flashing of the direction indicator lamps is rendered constant by including a resistor 37. The circuit may include a switch to connect an additional flasher unit to all indicator lamps simultaneously.
