Abstract

906,694. Crank-shafts. BIRMINGHAM SMALL ARMS CO. Ltd. July 15, 1959 [May 7, 1958], No. 14572/58. Class 80 (2). A crank-shaft for a twin cylinder two-stroke internal combustion engine is made in two parts secured together by the interengagement of a tapered spigot 17 and socket 23 on the inner crank discs 9, 7 respectively, the members being held together by an axial bolt 27, a key 37 located between the bolt head 35 and an intermediate flange 41 preventing their relative rotation. The bolt head is circular and engages a circlip 47 preventing axial displacement of the bolt. The bolt is rotated by a turning bar inserted through the hollow shaft 1 and engaging a hexagonal recess 45 in the bolt head. When the bolt 27 is unscrewed to disengage the shaft portions, the flange 41 engages the key 37, thus withdrawing the latter axially and releasing members 17, 23.
