Abstract
866,248. Locks. BANKS & CO. Ltd., J. Nov. 4, 1959 [Nov. 12, 1958], No. 36287/58. Class 44. A lock for a container 27, Fig. 1, having a lid 31 which is to be locked automatically upon being closed, comprises a plunger 17, mounted for rotation and axial sliding movement in a lock casing 10, which is axially loaded by a spring 19 toward its locking position, is adapted at one end to be turned by a key 16 and at the other end to engage a hole 32 in a tongue 29 on the lid 31 and has a cross-pin 22, Fig. 3, which-when the plunger and tongue are in locking engagementco-operates with a stationary cam 20 to displace said plunger axially against the spring 19 and cause it to disengage the hole in the tongue when the plunger is turned by the key. The key engages a cross-pin 21 carried by the plunger to rotate the latter and cause the pin 22 to ride-up faces 23, Fig. 5, on the cam 20. The spring 19 is located between the pin 22 and a washer 18 which serves to prevent the infiltration of dust &c. into the locking mechanism.
