Abstract
1,238,494. Locking handle. REGENT LOCK CO. Ltd. 24 Nov., 1969 [22 Nov., 1968], No. 55598/68. Heading E2A. A handle 2 and lock 3 combination in a housing 1, adapted to be mounted in a closure member, especially up and over garage doors, which housing defines a cleating in which the handle is received, substantially flush with the housing, when the handle is releasably held in the housing by the lock, the handle 2 being mounted on a pivot pin 9, so that when the lock 3 is released one end of the handle 2 pivots away from the housing 1 about the pivot pin 9 and is capable of operating a latching mechanism 20 connected to the handle at a position remote from the handle and lock combination. The pivoting may occur under the action of gravity or by a spring (25) acting on the projection 27 of the handle 2. The lock 3 may be a barrel lock which on operation of the key 5 moves the plunger 6 against the action of the spring 7 so that the spigot on the plunger 6 moves out of the recess 8 on the handle 2 and after the handle is released it may be moved through the remainder of its 90‹ movement to the position shown in Fig. 4 where the bolt 22 is released from the keeper 24 against the bias of the spring 20. The housing may have peripheral strengthening lugs 13, 14.
