Abstract

1337374 Padlocks SARGENT & GREENLEAF INC 22 May 1972 [4 Nov 1971] 23916/ 72 Heading E2A A key operable padlock 10, Fig. 2, has a casing 11 having sockets 14, 15, Fig. 4, therein for receiving legs 17, 18, Fig. 1, of a shackle 16 and has a central bore 25, Fig. 2, therein which receives a replaceable key lock plug 26, the latter being attached by screws 24b, 24b to a bolt 24, Fig. 1, which is movable into and out of locking engagement with notches 17a, 18a, Fig. 2, formed in the legs 17, 18 respectively of the shackle 16. An opening 27, Fig. 8, for a key is provided in the end of the padlock which is remote from the shackle sockets 14, 15 and a slideway 39, Fig. 1, for a slidable cover member 30 is formed at the other end of the padlock. The cover member 30 has an opening 40 through which the leg 18 can pass and serves to retain the key lock plug 26 in position when a pin 24e, of a rotatable bolt 24, is received in a slot 30A, Fig. 9, of the member 30. In order to substitute a plug 26 which is actuated by a different key, the shackle 16 is withdrawn and moved through 180 degrees so as to align the notch 17b of the leg 17 with the bolt 24. The original plug 26 is rotated by the key in the "remove-plate" direction shown in Fig. 8 so that the pin 24e of the bolt 24 can leave the slot 30A and allow removal of the cover member 30. The screws 24b, 24b are released and the replaced plug 26 is then connected to the bolt 24 by said screws 24b, 24b, Fig. 1. The shackle 16 may be retained within the casing 11 by a pin 19, Fig. 2, and the padlock may be provided with a shroud 49, Fig. 10.
