Abstract

912,240. Latches. VAUXHALL MOTORS Ltd. Oct. 12, 1961 [Oct. 25, 1960], No. 36586/60. Class 44. A latch for holding a slidable door in the closed or open position comprises hasps 9, 10 freely mounted on a pivot bolt 5 and drawn downwardly by springs 13, 14. A plate 15 is rotatable on the pivot bolt and carries lugs 16, 17 which underlie the hasps 9, 10 respectively so that rotation of the bolt in one direction causes the lug 16 to lift the hasp 9 and rotation in the opposite direction causes the lug 17 to lift the hasp 10. The hasp 9 holds the door shut by engagement with a striker 21 on the front pillar of the door opening and the hasp 10 holds the door shut by engagement with a striker 23A the hasp 10 being cranked so that its end 10A is offset laterally. Means for locking the door in the closed position comprises a pin 26 carried by the plate 15 and projecting through a slot in a side plate of the latch, a nut 28 being threaded on the pin and into the slot to prevent rotation of the plate 15.
