Abstract
856,687. Rotary pumps. HOBOURNEATON MANUFACTURING CO. Ltd. Jan. 24, 1958 [April 8, 1957], No. 2406/58. Class 110 (2). In a rotary pump of the roller or outwardlysliding vane-type having parallel sided slots or slots shaped as shown, the working chamber is defined by an intake arc B, D having a radius R1 progressively increasing over the portion B to C and then progressively decreasing over the portion C to D to a radius R3, a pumping arc D, E having a constant radius R3 and a discharge portion E, A progressively decreasing from the radius R3 to the radius R1. The pump is provided with inlet ports 30, 32 and discharge ports 34, 36, the port 32 being provided with an intake groove 84 and the port 36 being provided with a discharge groove 90 and a discharge extension channel 96. A groove 82 is also disposed in the surface of the working chamber whereby the provision of said groove, together with the extension 96 and the advanced position of a discharge port 37 relative to the discharge port 34 all cooperate to permit a gradual movement of the pumping elements from the trailing walls of the rotor slots to the leading walls thereof, thereby reducing noise.
