830,467. Motor-cycle frames; mounting engines. HOLT, H., HOLT, D. H. M., and HOLT, R. W. June 12, 1956 [June 13, 1955], No. 17007/55. Classes 79(3), 136(1) and 136(3) A motor-cycle comprises a main frame 1 extending from the steering head to a pair of rear forks 3, the junction between the frame and the rear forks carrying on upwardly and rearwardly inclined hollow casing 4 the upper end of which carries a seat and the steering head comprising a tube 32 embraced by an attachment plate 33 secured to the front end of the frame 1 by bolts 34. Vertical slots 6 are provided in the casing 4 so that the seat height may be adjusted. The seat comprises a lid 44 pivoted to the casing and supported by one or more spring units 48 (Fig. 4). The lid comprises a sheet metal pan 45 carrying a resilient cushion 46. The interior of the casing may be used as a storage compartment for tools or other articles. A tube 51 serves as a hand grip for a pillion passenger or as a handle by which the motor-cycle may be lifted. The rear mudguard 16 has integral side panels 17. Back-pedalling applies the brakes through a linkage 19. Foldable. support arms 29, 30 act as foot rests. The petrol tank comprises a cell 2 having flexible walls. The engine is mounted on two parallel plates 8.
