Abstract
786,271. Spring frames for cycles. GRUMBKOW, B. VON. Oct. 18, 1954 [Oct. 16, 1953], No. 29925/54. Classes 136(1) and 136(3) A power driven twowheeled vehicle such as a solo scooter comprises a frame 6, a steering head 7, a seat 2 having a back support 3, a steerable front wheel 24 and a driven rear wheel 11, the frame being provided with an inclined supporting surface for the feet. As shown in Fig. 12, the lower ends of the front forks 23 are provided with a forwardly offset part 38 which is connected to an upper lever arm 33 by a pivot 22 in which a rubber torsion spring is provided. A telescopic spring 35 is interposed between the lever arm 33 and a lower lever arm 34. In addition a shock absorbing cushion 36 is mounted between a part 39 connected to the fork tube 38 and a part 37 fast with the steering column. The seat 2 is carried by the frame 6 which extends in S-formation from the steering head 7. The upper part 9 of the S-frame on which the seat is mounted forms a tubular spring. The frame 6 may consist of two tubes 6a, 6b (Fig. 10). An additional tube 10 is supported with transverse reinforcement on the tubes 6a, 6b. A sheet metal member 25 from which a lug 31 is stamped out, is welded to the tubes 6a, 6b and 10 and to the steering head 7. The tubes 6a, 6b remain open towards the front and are formed in the vicinity of the engine 13 (Fig. 6) with an outlet so that cables and the like may be fitted. The rear wheel 11 may be mounted directly on the tubes 6 (Fig. 13) or it may be mounted on a rocking lever pivoted to the frame. As shown in Fig. 13, the S-shaped frame consists of two parts 40, 41 which are secured against relative twining by guide means or by pins. The two parts 40, 41 are connected by a clamp 43. As shown in Fig. 6, a hollow member 16 containing a tank or tool box is arranged beneath the seat 2 which may be pivoted and locked. A parcel storing chamber 20 is formed behind a windshield 18.
