Abstract

771,968. Hose &c. couplings. AVIMO, Ltd. Oct. 17, 1955 [Sept. 20, 1954], No. 27170/54. Class 99(1) Each unit of a hose &c. coupling has complementary wards such that of a set of coupling pairs only the units of a pair having corresponding wards' can be engaged for securing the coupling. An installation may comprise hoses grouped together. As shown,a spigot 6 has keys 11 of the same spacing as studs 4 on a socket 1. A bayonet connection for the couplings comprises rhomboidal studs 5 on the socket engaging slots 13a in a sleeve 13 rotatably mounted on the spigot, the slots having re-entrant locking recesses to receive the studs. In Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown) the socket has bayonet recesses in it outer surface to receive studs on the sleeve 13, and in Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown), the bayonet joint is replaced by interengaging plain, multistart or interrupted screw threads, or by cams. The coupling may have valves which open when the coupling is made, the socket having a fixed valve 16 with a coned head 16a and spaces for the passage of fluid, and a slidable spring-pressed seat 17 with a rubber cap 17a coned internally to engage the valve, and the spigot 11 having a fixed seat and a spring-pressed slidable valve 9. When the coupling is made, the face of the cap 17a engages a ribbed face on the seat to prevent escape of fluid. The springs serve also to maintain the parts of the bayonet joint in position.
