Abstract
659,089. Pipe joints. WALSH, R. Aug. 20, 1948, No. 21961. [Classes 99(i) and 99(ii)] In a joint for pipes B, C, in which either or both pipes pass through a stuffing- box joint containing rings such as leather washers L, M, compressible upon the pipe by a union nut E, the inner face of the nut bears against a spring ring G which is positioned in a groove disposed in the pipe, in a collar J soldered thereon, or in the fitting A, so as to keep the pipe in position when the nut is tightened, and a screw plug or cap K is fitted opposite each pipe to permit access thereto for cleaning. The washers L have a conical face and a flat face and one or more washers M are interposed between the flat faces whilst the conical faces abut against like faces on the fitting A and a metal ring O respectively. In a modification for aligned pipes, Fig. 3 (not shown), the caps K are dispensed with.
