Abstract

688,758. Pipe couplings. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd., and AIREY, L. A. May 9, 1950 [July 5, 1949], No. 17684/49. Class 99 (i). A resilient ring 16, e.g. of rubber, has an annular recess formed in one end face and is compressed by an annular member 7 against a shoulder 4 of a socket 1 attachable as by a screwed extension 8 to a pipe line, and pressure fluid within the coupling increases the sealing pressure between the walls of the recess and the socket and a tubular spigot 11 slidable within the ring and also attachable to a pipe line. The spigot is detachably secured to the socket, e.g. by pivoted and spring-loaded levers 29 having claws 31 that engage behind a flange 14 of the spigot. There may be alternate metal rings 5, 22, 23 and rubber rings 16, 17 having complementary faces.
