[Also in Group XXIX] An automatic cut-off valve operable on loss of vacuum in any of the teat-cup conduits of a milking machine comprises a rotary cylindrical valve member with a pair of diametrically opposite, axially-extending recesses 9 whereby a main conduit 3 is placed in communication with branches 4 leading from the teat cups when the valve member is turned through 90 degrees from the closed position shown. An extension 25 of one of the recesses 9 communicates with a passage 26 when the valve is open so that a chamber 27 enclosed by a flange 13 of the valve member is subject to vacuum resulting in the flange being pressed against a rubber washer 11 with sufficient force to hold the valve open against the closing bias of a torsion spring 16. When, due to loss of vacuum, the valve starts to close, passages 28, 29, 30 are brought into register to open the chamber 27 to atmosphere. Manual opening of the valve is facilitated by wings 21 on a cap 15 which houses the spring 16.
