Abstract
653,125. Centrifugal separators. BAKER PERKINS, Ltd. July 23,1948, No. 19732. Convention date, Sept. 5, 1947. [Class 23] [Also in Group XXIX] A charging valve 10 for a centrifuge, e.g. for sugar, comprises a valve body 36, Fig. 3. connected to a supply duct 34 and having a curved end, and a closure member 48 adjustably pivoted to the body and co-acting with said end to control the flow of liquid, e.g. syrup, into the centrifuge basket 22, Fig. 1. The member 48 is rotated by a lever 72 connected to a piston in a cylinder 80 controlled by a solenoid valve 90, the energizing of which to open the valve is controlled by a time device which also controls the washing and stripping operations. When closed, the member 48 forms a drip-collecting pocket 66. The valve may be closed independently of the timing device if the level in the basket contacts a gauge 142, Fig. 8, mounted on a carriage 112 having rollers 122 engaging a slot 102 in a fixed bracket 100. The gauge is connected by a link 128 to the lever 72 whereby the gauge is moved into the basket when the valve opens and is removed when the valve closes. A rod 140 connected to the gauge is urged by a tension spring 154 to cause an arm 148 to engage a stop 150. At right-angles to the arm 148 is formed a cam 170, Fig. 7, which, when the gauge is engaged by the level in the basket, is rotated by the gauge to open a switch 178 thereby de-energizing the solenoid valve and causing the charging valve to close.
