683,216. Pipe couplings. AKTIEBOLAGET SEPARATOR. Jan. 17, 1950 [Jan. 22, 1949], No. 1216/50. Class 99 (i). In a pipe connection for milking machines in which a valve or cock is actuated after the connection is made the joint is sealed in such a way that milk does not come into contact with the major part of the passage through the valve to avoid frequent cleaning. The end of a tube 6 is adapted to enter through a key-hole slot 9 in the casing 1 of a plug-cock 2 on the pipe 4. The tube extends through the bore 5 of the cock and is sealed by a packing-ring 3. A flange 7 on the tube is engaged by the edges 10 of the slot when the cock is opened. An opening 11 in the casing is provided for cleaning the remote end 12 of the plug-cock bore. In a modification the valve comprises a sleeve 13, Fig. 6 embracing the pipe 4 which has an opening 16 adapted to register with a branch socket 14 of the sleeve having a packing- ring 3 and adapted to receive a tube connector. In a further modification a tube 24, Fig. 7 is sealed by a packing 3 in a socket 18 having a flange 17 which is pivoted at 25 on a plate 19 mounted on a branch of the pipe 4, the flange having a hooked lug 26 engaging the periphery of the plate. The flange 17 constitutes a slide valve which is open when the openings in flange and plate coincide. An arm 21 provides a rest for the operator's hand.
