Apparatus for supplying power to a movable carriage K is such that the power supply cable extends from supply point B round a pulley C mounted on a trolley D running on an overhead support E, back over a pulley F and round one or more guide pulleys H, J to the carriage K, the trolley being connected to the end of a tensioning cable M to which tension is applied by reel N to power supply cable beind carried by rollers G. The reel N may be spring-wound or motor-driven.
