Abstract

755,991. Taking up slack in electric cables. RUSHWORTH, D. July 6, 1955 [April 8, 1954], No. 10283/54. Class 78 (2). Apparatus for supplying power to a carriage A reciprocating on a track B, comprises a power supply cable D connected between a power supply point C and the carriage, a drum E for the cable and on which the cable is wound to pay out on both sides thereof, the drum being secured on an axle E<SP>1</SP> having wheels E<SP>2</SP>, and a wire rope F connected with the drum axle and adapted to move the drum towards the power supply point to wind up the cable when the carriage moves in the same direction. As shown, carriage A is driven to-and-fro along rails B, power being supplied thereto from supply point C by electric cable D wound on drum E carried on wheeled frame L. When carriage A moves to the right, the electric cable D is extended, the frame L following the carriage at half its speed; when carriage A moves to the left it causes frame L to likewise move to the left, the movement being communicated to the frame through arm K, endless rope H, pulley J and reel G carrying rope F connected to said frame. Alternatively, the rope F may be biased to the left by a counterweight.
