Abstract
846,336. Taking-up slack. BRITISH OXYGEN GASES Ltd. Jan. 13, 1959 [Jan. 17, 1958], No. 1731/58. Class 78 (2). A set of supply cables 15 connects a reciprocating flame-cutting apparatus 10 to a supply 25, and the slack therein is taken up by the reciprocation of carriage 21. The cables 15 are supported on axle-end-rollers 18, and pass leftwards from apparatus 10, reverse themselves round drum 19, pass under and along the length of carriage 21, reverse themselves round drum 23 carried by the carriage, and are secured to supply-point 25. A second set of cables 26 is secured to apparatus 10, then passes round pulleys 27, proceeds leftwards to reverse itself round pulleys 28, then proceeds rightwards along and over the carriage 21 to anchorage 29. The effect is that as apparatus 10 moves along its rails 12 the carriage moves at half the speed along its rails 20 to take up the slack in. the supply cables 15.
