[Also in Group XXX] In the supply of power from a fixed point to a moving piece of electrically-operated machinery, such as a land dredger, the supply cable C is coiled on a drum A which is mounted on the dredger, is supported on pairs of rollers D. E, and is driven when required to pay out or take up the cable, either frictionally from the supporting rollers or by gearing disposed at one or both ends of the drum. As shown, the drum comprises flanges A1 and cross members B, the flanges resting on the rollers D which are mounted on a shaft H driven from the dredger power unit, a motor J, or by connection with the land wheels of the dredger. Alternatively, the drum may be driven by a pinion on the shaft H. A cable guide M which is traversed across the drum to lay the turns of the cable side by side is mounted on a screw N rotated by a chain 0 from the shaft H or is traversed by an endless wire, rope or chain.
