Abstract

979,862. Power supply for overhead travelling cranes. S. H. HEYWOOD & CO. Ltd. Nov. 22, 1963 [Dec. 1, 1962], No. 45565/62. Heading B8B. Electric current passes from a junction-box C, Fig. 1, to a box A<SP>2</SP> on the crab A<SP>1</SP> of an overhead travelling crane through a cable B which passes round a drum D on a carriage A supporting the crab. The carriage A is traversed across a bridge C<SP>1</SP> on wheels c, Fig. 5, by a rope b the ends of which are secured adjacent the two junction-boxes. This rope also moves the crab on the carriage and as these movements take place the cable B is picked up from the bridge C<SP>1</SP>. The upper run of the cable is supported by brackets a, Fig. 3, on the carriage. A second cable or cables may pass round a drum D<SP>1</SP>. To reduce the length of the bridge over which the carriage travels a second carriage may be mounted over, under or side by side with the first carriage. One cable links the two carriages and a further cable links the crab thereto. If necessary a third carriage may be provided.
