748,448. Rolling; drawing. LOFBERG, B. D. S. Dec. 23, 1953 [Dec. 23, 1952], No. 35825/53. Class 83 (4). In a driving device for a series of drawing drums 1-4 or rolling mill rolls, each of the drums or rolls is driven at a speed corresponding to the elongation of the work from a common power source through a differential gear system comprising coupled planet gears 21, 25 mounted in the drums and in driving engagement with a driving shaft and with a shaft which drives the next successive drum. The driving shaft 12 of the first drum 1 is driven through bevel gears 10, 11 from a power-driven shaft 9 and carries the drum 1 freely rotatable on a bearing 13. A gear 16 keyed to the shaft 12 drives the planet gear 21 through a freely rotatable gear 18. The planet gear 21 is freely rotatable on a shaft 23 on the drum 1 and carries the planet gear 25 on an elongated hub 24. The planet gear 25 drives a gear 26 keyed to a shaft 28 which drives the next successive roll 2 through bevel gears 30, 31. The final drum 4 is fixed on a shaft 37 driven from shaft 34 through bevel gears 35, 36. The last drum 4 may also be driven through a differential gear system, the final driven shaft 28 being connected to a brake such as an electric generator. In order to obtain a positive drive with each drum being driven at a predetermined speed, gears 38, 44, &c. on the driving shafts 9, 32, &c. may be interconnected through gears 39, 43 and clutches 41.
