Abstract

737,583. Endless belt conveyers. MINING ENGINEERING CO., Ltd. Oct. 14, 1953 [Oct. 31, 1952], No. 27499/52. Class 78 (1). In a conveyer in which an endless belt is carried on an independent tension element, either the tension element or the belt or both are twisted through 180 degrees within the width of the belt and adjacent each end of the conveyer whereby the belt is supported on the tension element on both upper and lower runs of the conveyer. As shown, endless belt 2 is carried on frames 11, formed to trough the belt and secured across a pair of endless driving chains 3, the chains being guided in their upper run by rollers 12 carried by the frames 11 engaging tracks 13. At the delivery end of the conveyer (not shown) the belt is led on separately beyond the end of the run of the chains 3, being supported on suitable idlers. At the commencement of the return run of the chains, a roller 16 presses the belt against the inverted carrier after which the belt and frames 11 are twisted together by helical guides 14, 15 which guide the rollers on the frames 11, and a vertical roller 17 which guides the belt at the middle of the twist, the belt and frames being maintained together at the end of the twist by a further roller 18. -An intermediate drive unit, Fig. 8 (not shown), is preferably inserted on the upper run, chains 3 being passed down around a drive roller driven through a fluid drive and under a snub roller, thence up an inclined pair of rails to rejoin the belt which is supported on idlers over the gap in the frames 11.
