A conveyer for conveying in an upright position bottles and like articles with small bases, comprises rollers extending transversely between a pair of parallel endless link chains, closely spaced and of a diameter sufficiently exceeding the width of the links to provide a continuous support for the bases of the articles clear of the links, a track making contact with the underside of the rollers in the operative run of the chains, and guides above and at each side of the rollers to guide the articles as they are conveyed. As shown in Figs. 1, 3, a conveyer for bottles comprises rollers 11 freely mounted on pins 12, the ends of which form the pivotal connections for the links 14 of a pair of parallel endless chains. The rollers pass round a driving sprocket 16 and an idler roller 18 supported on uprights 17, 19 respectively, and over tracks 22, 23. Guides 26 secured to the track 22 prevent excessive laterai movement of the conveyer, whilst members 27 secured to the uprights 17, 19 guide the bottles. By replacing the guides 26 by a guide 32 lying within a groove 33 in the rollers 11, Fig. 4, the bottles are divided into two rows and excessive lateral movement of the chains is prevented. In a modification, Fig. 5, two tracks 34 are provided, engaging in grooves 36 in the rollers 11, whereby the rate at which the bottles move relatively to the conveyer, is increased.
