973,365. Turning articles by endless conveyers. TABAK - UND INDUSTRIEMASCHINEN DRESDEN. Oct. 25, 1961, No. 38199/61. Heading B8A. Cigarettes in a row 2 conveyed by a band 1 of a double-band conveyer pass between endless belts 5, 5<SP>1</SP> of a device which turns the cigarettes through 180 degrees in the same plane. Cigarettes 2<SP>1</SP> on the other band of the double-band conveyer lie with their tips towards those of the cigarettes on the conveyer band 1 and do not pass through the turning device. The cigarettes 2<SP>1</SP> are transferred via a shoot 21 on to a discharge belt 19. Cigarettes which have been turned are guided by a plate 20 and combine to form a single row on the belt 19. By turning only the cigarettes in one of the rows 2, 2<SP>1</SP>, the cigarettes in the single row have all their tips or printing disposed along one side of the row. A bridge member 3 transfers the cigarettes 2 between the conveyer 1 and the belts 5, 5<SP>1</SP> and has side rails 4 also extending along the conveyer 1, for maintaining the cigarettes in line. The belts 5, 5<SP>1</SP> are supported on rollers 6, 6<SP>1</SP>, 7, 7<SP>1</SP> and on end guide pulleys 8<SP>1</SP>, 9<SP>1</SP>. The belts are driven by inner guide pulleys 8, 9 mounted on a hollow shaft 11 which is driven by a mechanism 17 through spur-wheels 12, 13. The guide pulleys and rollers of each belt unit are connected by a bracket 14 and the upper unit is adjustable vertically to vary the gap between the belts.
