Abstract
698,639. Conveyers; loading &c. GREBE, K. Feb. 23, 1951. [Feb. 25, 1950; Sept. 13, 1950] No. 4508/51. Classes 78 (i) and 78 (iv). A conveyance method utilising band sections which are moved back-and-forth upon or continuously around a support track of the type used for guiding endless conveyers is characterised in that one or more independent band sections is/are moved by several stationary and independent drive units arranged to engage the sections at points along the track which are spaced apart less than the length of the or each section whereby the latter moves to positions where the drive is obtained from the different drive units in turn. One or more band sections 4 are moved around a closed track bv means of drive units 1, 2, 3 which either consists of endless driven belts frictionally engaging the sections or consist of sprockets or toothed driven chains engaging lengths of chain on the sections. The sections pass from one drive unit to the next and at the ends of a run, both ends of a section are temporarily engaged by the same drive unit, since the units 1, 2, 3 act on both the upper and lower runs of the track. The drive units may be operated by the passage of the sections over switches which start each unit as a section approaches it and stop the unit as the section leaves it. The sections may be guided laterally by having rollers on vertical axes at each end engaging guides on the track. The sections may consist of chains between which is an openwork structure, the chains being stiffened by steel cables secured to them along their length or by springs coupled between adjacent chain links. Subsidiary tracks may be associated with the closed track and points may be provided to allow sections to be fed to the closed track from a subsidiary track or removed from the closed track on to a subsidiary track. Specifications 684,355 and 693,126 are referred to.
