The movement of the thread guides of a warp machine is restricted to a shogging movement actuated by the usual pattern cams or chains, and the needles have a movement in addition to their usual reciprocatory movement whereby they are swung past the thread guides to take the yarns. For this purpose the needle bar is supported at its ends by pins 22, 122 engageable in slots 23, 123 in end plates, which slots when the bar is raised and lowered by eccentric 32 impart the necessary swinging motion to it. Alternatively, the needle-bar and trick bed may be mounted on pivoted arms 40 controlled by a cam 52 to impart the swinging movement, the needle bar in addition being raised and lowered by a cam 50 through plungers 43. In addition to the usual thread guides a series of steel bars 7 may be provided with guide eyes 8 provided in projections 9 which extend between the needles when the needles swing across them. The steel bars 7 are closely spaced together and are operated by springs or levers controlled by pattern cams to effect shogging movement.
