Abstract
728,908. Reverse gearing; friction catches. LANGDON, A. G. March 4, 1953 [March 7, 1952], No. 5991/52. Class 80 (2). [Also in Group XXXIV] Planetary reverse gearing comprises a shaft 2 and bevel sun gear 5 meshing rale gears 7 in a housing 3 which can be restrained from rotation for reverse drive by a brake band 23, the idle gears also meshing a sun gear 6 on a driven shaft 4, the gear train being locked solid for forward drive by a friction cone 11 moved axially to engage a co-operating surface in the housing when a sleeve 17 is slidden to pivot member 16 carring adjusting screws 18 acting as cams upon pins 14 which transmit the engaging force to a presser plate 12 axially free on the driven shaft and to a friction plate I (or plates) 18. The @ and clutch are alternately engaged by moving a hand @ shown, connected to and pivoting with a spindle 21 to rock a lever 20 and slide the sleeve 17 axially.
