190,578. Garden, W. B. Oct. 17, 1921. Variable-speed gearing comprises an epicyclic train controlled by conical friction gearing. To a driving-shaft b are secured a sun gear a and bevelgear o. Planet gears d, e, which interengage, are carried by a casing c loose upon the shaft b and connected by a sliding coupling h with a conical disc i. Rollers k movable in unison on splined shafts l driven from the gear o constantly engage and drive the spring-pressed disc i. The gears d, e mesh with the gear a and with a gear f upon a sleeve f', which is driven at varying speeds as the friction cones are moved relatively to one another.
