Abstract
547,273. Epicyclic gearing; brakes. GLASNER, R. W. May 20, 1941, No. 6463. [Class 80 (i)] [Also in Group XXXIV] In driving mechanism for presses and other mechanism, a constantly rotating flywheel 37 freely mounted on the driven shaft 17 has a toothed sun gear 46 meshing planetary pinions 45 carried by the driven shaft 17. A freely mounted internally toothed annulus 49 gears with the pinions 45 and has a brake disc 48. The latter co-operates with friction faces on a plate 26 and on a piston 53 carried. by a fixed housing 23. The driven shaft 17 has a brake disc 67 co-operating with a plate 62 on the piston 53 and with a plate 31 carried by the fixed housing 23. Springs 59 tend normally to engage the brake 31, 62, 67 and disengage the brake 26. 53, 48: At such times the shaft 17 is held stationary and the annulus, 49 is. rotated idly The piston 53 is moved in opposition to the springs 59 by fluid pressure introduced into the piston cylindier 51 through a duct 52. There, upon the brake 26, 53, 48 is engaged and brake 31, 62, 67 disengaged. The annulus 49 is thus held fixed; and the driven shaft 17 is rotated at a speed slower than that of the flywheel 37 by the planetary gears 45. The plates 26, 31, are adjustably screwed to the fixed housing 23 and are locked in position by members 27, 34.
