Headlamps and other consumption apparatus 20, 21 on a vehicle, such as a motor cycle, are supplied by a battery 13 charged by an alternator 10 and rectifier 12, excessive charging being prevented by a contactor 14, 15 which, upon the battery attaining a predetermined voltage, opens its contacts 14 to allow a currentlimiting reactor 11 in the charging circuit to become effective. A switch 16, opened by removal of the usual ignition switch 17, prevents discharge of the battery through the coil 15 and rectifier 12 when the vehicle is stationary with its engine cut.
