Abstract

802,249. Vehicle lighting systems; permanent magnet alternators. WIPAC DEVELOPMENT, Ltd. Sept. 25, 1956 [Oct. 6, 1955], No. 28547/55. Classes 35 and 38 (4). A road vehicle lighting system has a head lamp 20 directly fed from an alternator, and at the same time a pilot lamp 23 is supplied from the battery 18, the latter being charged over rectifier 16. Two sets of alternator windings 10, 11 and 12-15, together with the battery 18 are connected to a 3-position switch, having a central " off " position which places a resistor 24 across one arm of rectifier 16. In the " low " (left hand) position, the battery supplies tail and pilot lamps 22, 23 and substitutes a higher valued resistor 25 for resistor 24. The " high " position connects head lamp 20 to windings 10, 11 and the battery continues to supply lamps 22, 23 while resistor 25 is disconnected, thus maintaining the load on the alternator constant.
