A machine for removing burrs from the edges of discs, resulting from the cutting of the discs from rod stock, comprises a base plate 10 having end plates 11, 12 between which are rotatably mounted a large roller 13 and a smaller roller 19; the rollers are covered with an abrasive material, e.g. emery cloth glued or otherwise attached thereto, and are driven in the same direction but at different angular velocities, by an electric motor 18 and toothed gearing. A batch of discs 39 is placed on the rollers. A shaft 33 is rotatably supported between the outer edges of brackets 31, 32 secured to an axle 27 which is rotatably mounted in the end plates 11, 12 so that the shaft 33 can be swung up to permit insertion of the discs 39 or swung down to rest on the discs. A weight 29 is mounted on the outer end of an arm 28 extending from the axle 27 so as to exert the desired pressure. Brackets 34, 36 have at their inner ends knurled collars 37, 38 slidable on the axle 27, the outer ends of the brackets being slidably supported by the shaft 33. The brackets 34, 36 have downwardly extending projections 35 which, when the knurled collars 37, 38 are pressed together engage the side faces of the outermost discs to hold the discs together and to limit their lateral movement. The discs may be for use in an electromechanical filter constructed as described in Specification 722,664, [Group XL(b)].
