640,133. Sharpening safety-razor blades. WALTON, A. L. June 28, 1948, No. 17273. [Class 60] A hand - operated device for sharpening razor blades has two sharpening rollers 2, 3 upon which the edges of the blade 10 are brought to bear, and a driving roller 7 arranged alternately to engage and rotate the sharpening rollers outwardly of the blade edges as the device is reciprocated on, and with the roller 7 engaging, a flat surface. The rollers 2, 3 are mounted in a frame 1 which fits into a casing 11 carrying rollers 12, 13 while the spindle of the driving roller is received in slots 5 in the frame 1. When the device is moved to the right, the roller travels to the left of the slots to drive the sharpening roller 2, which then drives the roller 12. The blade is located by pegs 9 and replaced by detaching the casing 11. In a second embodiment, Fig. 3, the rollers 2, 3 are connected by a gear train so that they are rotated simultaneously, and the casing 11 is hingedly connected with the frame 1 by slotted links 18, the blade being located by pegs 9. The sharpening rollers may be of resilient material dressed with a sharpening compound or of non-resilient material. In the latter case, the rollers of each pair are connected by gears.
